Membership in the choirs is open to all individuals who enjoy music, and are able to make the time commitment necessary to attend rehearsals and worship services. Accordingly, the First Church Music Ministry strives to offer music training and performance opportunities of the highest possible caliber for children, teens and adults in a supportive and joyful environment.

OUR CHURCH CHOIRS

Adult Choir, The Boys and Girls Choir, The Junior Choir, The Pilgrim Chorale, The Meetinghouse Ringers, First Brass, The Meetinghouse Chorale,  Candlelight Caroling, Concerts etc

Adult Choir: (Rehearsal, Wednesday, 7:30-9:00 pm) At the heart of the music program at First Church is our Adult Choir.  The Adult Choir sings at the 10:00 am worship service each week from the beginning of September to the beginning of June. They lead us in the singing of hymns and add to our worship anthems and offertories that are a traditional part of the language of our Christian faith.  Our hymns and songs are offered to God and we are blessed to have the committed and faithful leadership of our Adult Choir.  The Choir is open to adults interested in having fun singing music. Previous choral experience is helpful, but not required. 

The Boys and Girls Choir: (Rehearsal, Tuesday & Thursday, 4-5 pm) The Boys and Girls Choir is a wonderful musical training program for children in grades three through seven. They rehearse twice a week for one hour during the school year and they sing twice a month at the 10:00 am worship service. This program is for children with a strong interest and commitment to singing.
                               

The Junior Choir (Rehearsal, Wednesday, 4:00-4:30 pm ) The Junior Choir is the youngest of our choirs and it is open to children in grades one to three.  The goal of this choir is to get children involved in music and have them experience the joy of singing.  The Junior Choir sings once a month at the 10:00 am worship service.

The Pilgrim Chorale (Rehearsal, Sunday, 11:30am to 12:30 pm) The Pilgrim Chorale is composed of young people in the eighth grade and high school, along with adult mentors who sing at the invitation of the Minister of Music.  The Pilgrim Chorale sings once a month at the 10:00 am worship service, and sometimes joins with the adult choir for special music.

The Meetinghouse Ringers (Rehearsal, Tuesday, 6:30-7:30 pm) The Meetinghouse Ringers are the advanced handbell group at First Church.  They play once a month at the 10:00 am worship service. The group is open to handbell ringers with prior experience.

First Brass:  First Brass is a Brass Choir made up of musicians of all ages which plays during worship in the different seasons of the Church year.  It is under the direction of Steve and Gretchen Perrett, both graduates of the Yale School of Music.  Rehearsal times vary for this group and if you are interested in playing, please speak to our Minister of Music. We encourage young Brass players to join us.

The Meetinghouse Chorale: (Rehearsal, Wednesday evenings in season--call for more details.)  The Meetinghouse Chorale consists of the  concert choir, with singers from the community performing in an Oratorio Concert, usually with an orchestra. The Meetinghouse Chorale is open to adults and teens wishing to sing choral masterworks with orchestra.  We invite singers from the community to join the Chorale which usually performs at a concert in the Spring.

       In past years, the Chorale has performed major works by Duke Ellington, Haydn, and Schubert.  In the picture below, the Meetinghouse Chorale rehearses the April 2004 performance of Mendelssohn's Elijah.

Candlelight Caroling   

Candlelight Caroling is a special musical offering of all the Choirs of First Church.  In the candlelit sanctuary of First Church, the choirs lead us in celebration of the birth of the Christ Child.  This service is usually scheduled for 4:30 PM on the Third or Fourth Sunday of Advent.

Concerts etc.   The Music Ministry of First Church offers a variety of concerts.  Each year, there may be an  Organ Concert, concerts by visiting musicians and sometimes by visiting choirs.  We have had silent movies, jazz and pop concerts.  All of these concerts are open to the community.
