10:00 AM in the Meetinghouse

  This service is the primary worship service of First Church. It includes music by the Church Choirs, a children’s story, and our Sunday School program meets during the worship hour.  This service may include the Sacrament of Baptism and mission presentations and a number of special events that are a part of the active life of our congregation. We celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper at both services on the first Sunday of the month.

This service is followed by a coffee hour which takes place in Fellowship Hall on the lower level of our Church building.  In the coffee hour, you will find fellowship and interesting conversation about the life and the ministries of First Church.

 8:00 AM in the Woodruff Chapel

    The 8:00 AM worship service offers a shortened version of the 10:00 AM service in the smaller chapel setting.  The Chapel seats approximately 60 people.  There is no Sunday School during this service and childcare is not available. The Chapel is handicapped accessible.

Special Services throughout the Year

Thanksgiving Eve

    On the Wednesday Evening before Thanksgiving, we gather at 7:00PM in the Meetinghouse to offer our prayers of thanksgiving to God on the evening before our national holiday.  We encourage worshippers to break off from their preparations and join us for a community service that is organized and conducted by the members of the Milford Clergy Association.

The Christmas Concert

Our Christmas Concert is a special musical offering of all the choirs of First Church with participation by members of the Meetinghouse Chorale.  In the beautifully decorated sanctuary of First Church, the choirs lead us in a celebration of the nativity.  This concert is usually scheduled for 4:00 PM on the third or fourth Sunday in Advent.

Christmas Eve  (Worship at 4:00, 7:00, and 11:00)  

 

4:00 PM:  Worship for families with young children.  This service of story and carols is designed for families who have young, excited children.

           

          7:00 PM: A Service of Lessons and Carols with special music offered by the the Choirs of First Church.

            

        11:00 PM: A Service of Lessons and Carols with special music offered by the Senior Choir and the Pilgrim Chorale.

 

Lent and Easter

Ash Wednesday

            7:00 AM in the Woodruff Chapel.  We begin our Lenten Journey with a Communion Service early in the day.

 

Maundy Thursday

            7:30 PM in the Meetinghouse.  The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper and the service of Tenebrae with music offered by the Adult Choir.

 

Good Friday

           10:00 AM  A Service for young people.

            7:30 PM in the Meetinghouse.  Worship focusing on the Passion Narrative.  The format of this service changes from year to year.

Easter Sunday

Sunrise Service: (Around 6:00 AM)  Worship takes place in the Memorial Garden, next to the Woodruff Chapel. Leadership is provided by the Senior Pilgrim Fellowship.

9:00 AM and 11:00 AM

Two identical services in the Meetinghouse celebrating the resurrection with brass and choral music offered by all of the       Church Choirs.

Summer Worship Schedule

    Beginning the third week in June through the end of August, we worship at 8:00 AM in the Plymouth Chapel and 9:30 AM in the Meetinghouse.

               First Church is a beautiful and sacred place for a wedding.  Our Meetinghouse can accommodate 500 people and the Woodruff Chapel seats approximately 60 people.  Along with being available to our members, the pastors and sanctuaries of First Church are available to couples from the community who are searching for a place to make their covenants with each other in God’s house.  The wedding service at First Church is Christ-centered and embraces faithful theological and religious standards.

            Although we are available for weddings from the community, the number of services that we can accommodate each year is limited by the availability of pastors and the sanctuary.  If you are unfamiliar with First Church but are considering the church for your wedding, we urge you to join us for worship to see what worship in our tradition is all about.  When you have settled on a date for your ceremony, you can call the Church Office (203 877-4277) to check availability, and the Church Secretary will send you a booklet describing in some detail our wedding policies and costs.
