How it Works

Food 2 Kids has many Partners and Several Steps:

We order food for the bags through the CT Food Bank guidance so that we can buy in bulk. We purchase and pick up food at the CT Food Bank in Wallingford and supplement through local businesses' resources. We pack kid friendly foods, which children can easily prepare with little assistance, if that is what they have.

Volunteers sort and pack food bags on Thursdays each week (40 weeks per school year). In the 20 weeks of our pilot program, we packed over 3000 lbs of food, which was destributed to 26 students through two local schools.  Volunteers Sandy, Pete, Michele, Joan, Lloyd, Kathy, Faith and Peter have been packing and delivering since the early spring!  In the coming months we will share some of their stories with you.

Volunteers deliver food bags to partner schools on Friday mornings. School social workers predetermine the students most in need of their support program based on need.  Those social workers with staff help distribute the food bags to students before they leave on Friday afternoon.

Program Growth:

Food 2 Kids began distributing bags in February 2016. In 20 weeks the program consistantly fed 26 students, as we carried out our pilot program.

We hope to feed all of those children in our schools who are suffering from chronic food insecurity.  We have 8 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 2 high schools and 1 alternative school in our Milford Public School District.  In order to meet the needs of more students, we need the Milford Community to share this responsibility with us.

Our Goal is 100 sponsorships committed by the start of the
Fall Semester 2016!

We are well on our way with the generosity of First Church members and friends, local businesses like Eli's Tavern, local churches like Christ the Redeemer Church, and many more!  We will soon post our sponsorship page.

We have 35 commitments and need 65 to reach this Goal.  Sponsor a Child.  Support us through sharing the message.  Use your generosity to help us buy food!

We need community support to feed all of the hungry children in Milford!
