Milford Food 2 Kids Ministry Launch

February 2016--Have you ever seen a hungry kid? Ask a school teacher.

We will fill the gap.

Map The Meal Gap 2015 study shows Connecticut's overall child food insecurity rate is 19 percent, or 152,990 children state wide. CT Food Bank offers a weekend food program to serve many of these kids. Every week, the CT Food Bank delivers food packs to 3,300 children, but they are not able to attend to all of the children facing food insecurity, 37,600+ kids in New Haven County alone. We have joined their efforts to serve kids in Milford.
Yes, Milford has hungry kids.

School isn't just a place for learning for some of our most impoverished students, it is also the only reliable source of food in their lives. The sad truth is that from Friday afternoon until they return to school on Monday morning some of these children may not know if, or how much, they will get to eat at home.

Milford Food 2 Kids was created to help bridge this food gap for some of our community's neediest kids. Bags of kid-friendly food — enough for at least six meals — are handed out every week to children identified by our partnering school's teachers and counselors as being the most in need.

The kids don't know who we are and we don't know who the kids are.

Our Program is inspired by Habersham Food 2 Kids in Northeast GA.  Milford Food 2 Kids started out modestly by providing weekly food bags to roughly 26 students in 2 schools.

We simply want to feed hungry children. With the support of CT Food Bank, our Outreach Ministry and Church, Schools and Administration, donations will go toward purchasing food and getting it into the hands of hungry children.

Volunteers at First UCC of Milford are passionate about getting Milford Food 2 Kids up and running, but we need your help expanding it to meet all of our community's needs.
Each community is different and those that live there best know the need. Other key partnerships include:
School District, Church, Corporate, Civic & Benevolent Organizations
There are many different volunteer opportunities for individuals — from stuffing food bags to organizing food drives. So please join us in the effort to end hunger. Together we can make a difference in children's lives.
